Dear Ray:

Allow me to take this opportunity to express my appreciation of your articulate and effective advocacy for the rights of unborn children by way of your October10, 2004 letter to Senator John Kerry as published in the New York Times.  Focusing on the matter of the right to life and the troubling prospect that persons who might be considered for appointment to the Supreme Court could be excluded from consideration if they do not support abortion, you raised the debate above political affiliation and brought it to the level of human rights.

With the help of God may people of all political affiliations and religious beliefs give serious consideration to your argument and continue to advocate for the protection of unborn life or be persuaded to do so.  Together let us witness the Gospel of Life.

Asking God's blessings upon you and your family, I remain

Devotedly yours in Christ,

+Sean, OFM Cap

Archbishop of Boston
